Former Chorister Nominated for Meteor Ireland Awards 2010: Best Female
By virtue of having a mixed-voice cathedral choir, Christ Church has seen much female vocal talent go through its ranks over the years since 1980 when Judy Pomeroy was appointed as the first female member of the cathedral choir. Singers have included one of Ireland's most accomplished contemporary singer/songwriters, Eleanor McEvoy; the original voice of Riverdance, Katie McMahon; the winner of the Eurovision song contest, Eimear Quinn; rising star, Chloƫ Agnew, to name but a few.
Most recently, a former alto in the cathedral choir, Julie Feeney, has been blazing a trail with two albums: 13 songs and Pages. The first was released to much critical acclaim: Hot Press said 'With this debut album Julie Feeney announces herself as the most intriguing female voice...to come out of Ireland since Sinead O'Connor...for sheer originality, courage and raw talent'. While the Irish Times, noting her most recent, and also self-produced album, Pages, and awarding it CD Choice of the Week on 29 May 2009 proclaimed that Julie was 'an innovator, an original; incomparable with any of her contemporaries and she has created what might just be the Irish album of the year...". For those interested in listening to her most recent album, it can be found on the website of her record label: Mittens. To vote for her as Best Female in the Meteor Ireland Awards 2010, go to the Meteor website, and vote before Friday 19 February 2010.
