LAY VICARS CHORAL
(Soprano, Tenor)
Stipend of 4,200 euro plus fees. Three services per week. The cathedral choir undertakes international tours, recordings, radio and television broadcasts, as well as concerts.
(Thursday 17.00-20.30, Sunday 10.00-12.30 & 14.15-16.30)

CHORAL SCHOLARS
(Alto, Tenor)
Scholarship of 2,000 euro to sing four services a week, the fourth service with the cathedral girls' choir on Wednesdays during term time.
Scholars must be aged 18 or over.
(Wednesday 17.20-18.40, Thursday 17.00-20.30, Sunday 10.00-12.30 & 14.15-16.20)

Concert: Bergsøy Blandakor (Saturday 11 September 2010, 13.15)

Bergsøy mixed choir is made up of a large and varied group from Herøy on the west coast of Norway. The choir was founded in 1971 and the members are a variety of different ages. This will be the choir's first trip abroad and for their concert in Christ Church Cathedral they will be performing the following:

New canon appointed to Christ Church Cathedral

The Reverend Aisling Shine will be installed as a canon of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin next month.

Aisling is currently working in Drumcondra North Strand and was previously based in Clondalkin and Rathcoole parish. She was ordained to the diaconate in 2003 and to the priesthood in 2004.

A native of Clontarf, Aisling has a nursing background having trained at the Mater Hospital and later qualified as a midwife at the Rotunda Hospital. She is married to Ted, an army officer, with whom she has two grown-up daughters, Emer and Deirdre.

Aisling and her family also have a strong commitment to Concern - a charity she worked with in Rwanda.

Regarding her new appointment, Aisling stated that she was "looking forward to meeting the people who work and worship in Christ Church and being part of that work and worship myself."

The installation will take place at Christ Church cathedral on Sunday, 19 September 2010 at 3.30pm.

Culture Night (Friday 24 September 2010)

Christ Church will be participating in Culture Night on Friday 24 September, when the cathedral's doors will open from 6.00pm until 10.00pm. There will be no charge for anyone visiting between these times. Tours will take place at 7.00pm and 8.00pm, but numbers will be limited and they will operate on a first come basis. The crypt and the cathedral's newly opened Foxy Friars gift shop there will also be open.

The Right Reverend Donald Caird

This month marks a significant milestone in the life and ministry of Bishop Donald Caird. On 29 September, Michaelmas Day, Bishop Caird celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of his ordination, the fortieth anniversary of his consecration as bishop and the twenty-fifth anniversary of his election to the archbishopric of Dublin & bishopric of Glendalough. All three events were celebrated here at Christ Church cathedral. Bishop Caird was ordained in 1950, consecrated bishop of Limerick, Ardfert and Aghadoe in 1970, translated in 1976 to the see of Meath and Kildare and elected archbishop of Dublin and bishop of Glendalough in 1985 where he served until his retirement in 1996. TALES OF MEDIEVAL DUBLIN
LUNCHTIME LECTURE SERIES

The Friends of Medieval Dublin and Dublin City Council are pleased to announce the launch of TALES OF MEDIEVAL DUBLIN, a new monthly lunchtime lecture series, exploring the lives of seven different and fascinating inhabitants of Medieval Dublin. The lectures are themed around the tales of individuals from Dublin's history including an early abbot, a Viking skeleton, an Dublin merchant, an outlaw, a heretic, a wife and a knight.

It will be officially launched by the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Emer Costello, on Tuesday 15 June 2010 at 1.00pm in the new Wood Quay Venue , Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8. Following the launch, Seán Duffy will present 'The Abbot's Tale', the story of Abbot Beraid, the 7th century abbot of Dubh-Linn.

Each of the six subsequent lectures will run on a Tuesday mid-month from July to December in the Wood Quay Venue of Dublin City Council, against the unique backdrop of a stretch of the original Viking wall ...

Christ Church Cathedral Dublin has a long and strong musical tradition which is both visibly and vocally represented at services by excellent and committed choirs who have contributed so willingly over the years to the liturgical life of the cathedral. This tradition has been challenged in recent times and the cathedral board has had to respond accordingly.

A combination of volcanic ash clouds and world wide recession has impacted on our visitor numbers resulting in a decrease of 25% in our income. The significant cuts in the budget relating to the cathedral choir mean that we have had to reduce the choir to three services from the start of the new term in September. We have also honoured our commitments to all current choir members reflecting their dedication and loyalty to the cathedral.

In these sessions we explore the possibilities and the limitations of the ways in which we approach the
